Psalm 16 – Derek: Meditating on the Way

The Psalm confesses an allegiance to God. The Psalmist chooses Yahweh and recognizes every good thing is from the Lord. From this comes an intimacy with God that guides and forms the Psalmist.

Therefore, the Psalmist is confident God will choose life for the Psalmist–God will not abandoned us to death. Peter (Acts 2) and Paul (Acts 13) appropriate this Psalm in the light of King Jesus, the son of David, who God raised from the dead. God’s intent refusal to abandon the Messiah in Hades or in death is also God’s refusal to abandon us in the grave. Our confidence is we will experience the joy of life in the presence of the Lord forever–an embodied life, a resurrection life in our inheritance (the new heaven and new earth).
