Psalm 29 – Derek: Meditating on the Way

In Psalm 29 the earthly assembly of Israel commands the the heavenly “sons of God” around the throne of God in the heavenly temple to give Yahweh the glory due to the Creator of heaven and earth. Everyone in the temple–both on earth and in heaven–say, “Glory!”

When the people of God assemble, sounds and power of Sinai reverberate throughout the assembly as God enters and all creation responds. The combined assembly of heaven and earth ascribe glory to God and pray for peace on earth amidst the chaos. We do not gather for mutual edification alone but join all creation in assembly to say, “Glory to Yahweh, the covenant God of Israel!”
